The panoramas and fragrances of Akramitis
Activity Description
An enchanting forest path on Mount Akramitis leads us to a hidden cave on the mountainside: Limeri.
A place of great historical importance during the Second World War, this cave once served as a base for the local resistance and housed a secret radio station.
Our route continues past the small chapel of Agios Ioannis and eventually reaches the summit of the island’s second-highest peak, Mount Akramitis. The hike is 9 km long, with an elevation gain of 550 m, a duration of 5 hours, and a hard difficulty level due to its steep sections and rocky terrain. The effort is well rewarded: at the top, lush greenery meets the deep Aegean blue, offering a breathtaking panoramic view.
The entire area belongs to the NATURA 2000 European habitat network, protected for its extraordinary natural beauty, unique geological formations, and dense forest of pines and cypresses. It hosts rare ecosystems of wild flora and fauna, making this route one of the most fascinating on the island.
We end our journey descending along a rugged path with amazing, uninterrupted views all the way down.
