Hiking in Polydroso Parnassos and wine tasting at the Argyrios winery
Activity Description
The route starts from Amfiklia Square on an asphalt road, passing close to the ancient Acropolis of Amfiklia (cemetery site) and then we come to a quiet dirt road from which we approach the village of Polydrosos (also known as Souvala). This is another beautiful village in Parnassos, in the prefecture of Fokida, which administratively belongs to the enlarged municipality of Delphi. It is built at an altitude of 380 meters on the northeastern slopes of Parnassos. According to the 2011 census, it has a population of 1,125. The route has gentle elevation changes and offers views of the open horizon along its entire length, overlooking the plain and the fir forest of Mount Kallidromo. Halfway along the route, we come across a drinking fountain, right next to an imposing plane tree.
Upon arriving in the village, we will visit the Argyriou Winery, which was established in 2002, when the first vintage of the well-known white and red "Erochos" wine was produced. There, the hospitable Argyriou family will be waiting to show us around their cellar, teach us about the history of wine production in Parnassos, and treat us to a tasting of four wines from their estate, with the aim of sharing their passion for wine.
We will then proceed to the village square, where we will board our vehicles for the return trip.
Note: Payment for admission to the winery and wine tasting (4 labels from the estate) is made directly at the winery and costs €15 per person.
