Hiking at Lake Doxa
Activity Description
The extremely beautiful lake Doxa is artificial and is located at an altitude of 900 meters, in the heart of Ancient Feneos. Its construction was completed at the end of the 1990s, with the creation of a 225-meter-long dam in the bed of the Doxa stream, which was intended to cover the irrigation needs of the Feneos valley. Until then, the waters of the torrent joined the waters of the river Olvio and very often flooded the basin of the Feneos plain, destroying the crops of the producers.
This is how Lake Doxa was created, in whose waters the colorful mixed forests of Mountainous Corinthia are reflected, creating a unique illusion. Reference point in the center of the lake, the much-photographed little church of Agios Fanourios.
From the shores of Lake Doxa starts one of the most beautiful trails in the mountainous Peloponnese that passes through a dense fir forest and reaches the peak of Durdouvana at 2,109 meters. The Capelinian fir and black pines are an ideal refuge for the wild life of the area. Here, waterfowl and small birds set the pace, frogs, turtles, lizards, but also deer, jackals and wild boars are just some of the residents and visitors around the lake.
